Scaling & Root Planning (Deep Cleaning) Post Operative Instructions
Do: Expect some discomfort as the anesthetic wears off over the next few hours. This can be controlled by over-the-counter medications such as Ibuprofen (Advil) or Acetaminophen (Tylenol).
Do: Use the rinse that was sent home with you in the morning and at night. Rinse after brushing and flossing your teeth. The rinse will soothe the gums and reduce bacteria for better healing. Use ½ cap full each time you rinse. You will do this for 10 days.
Do: Brush your teeth 2x daily and floss under the gumline once a day, minimum.
Do: Come to your 1 month follow up cleaning. This is imperative to your healing and we will be able to clean any residual areas of lingering bacteria.
Do: Eat whatever you feel comfortable with. There are no restrictions. However, be careful not to bite your tongue or cheek while the numbness is still present.
